Central finds life in second half of two-game series
Wildcat bats come alive in double-header to split the series 2-2 with Western Oregon University, fight to stay in the playoff race.

The Central Wildcats baseball team took the final two games of four against Western Oregon University Wolves by a score of 6-3, and 9-4, after losing both games Friday.
The two wins increase the Wildcat’s record to 17-18 overall and 8-12 in the GNAC standings. The Wolve’s record falls to 16-19 overall and 12-7 in GNAC play.
Game One – CWU 6 WOU 3
Central scored in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Junior outfielder Darren Honeysett started off the inning with a single and came around to score with junior first baseman Randy Fuller’s single into left field.
The Wolves tied the game in the top of the second inning with a solo homerun by Garret Harpole. The Wildcats came back in the bottom of the second with senior outfielder and pitcher Cory Welch and senior catcher Jeff Beckman on base; Honeysett singled into centerfield and brought in both Welch and Beckman. Honeysett finished the first game with three hits and two RBI’s.
Central’s junior starting pitcher Dustin Hamilton pitched five innings. He gave up three hits, two runs and struck out five. Junior relief pitcher Alhanon Miller threw three innings giving up two hits, one run and struck out two. Cory Welch closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout.
Game Two – CWU 9 WOU 4
Central’s bats stayed hot in game two as the Wildcats had 13 hits in only six innings. Senior infielder Kasey Bielec and junior infielder Jonathan Daily both had three hits; Honeysett and Fuller each had two hits apiece.
Honeysett had five hits between the two games including a solo homerun in game two.
“This is a good team and to beat them, even split with them, is a win for us.”
Starting pitcher Cory Welch threw seven innings in game two, giving up four runs off seven hits.
Central is headed to Billings, Mont. to take on Montana State University-Billings, on April 10. The first game starts at 1 p.m.
