Mr. and Ms. Central
Central students rocked it Tuesday night at the Mr. and Ms. Central competition. Students representing the various residence halls around campus put on amazing performances to showcase their unique talents and vie for the chance to be crowned Mr. or Ms. Central.
Ms. Rosaday Johnson from Wendell Hill Hall and Mr. Cameron Bester from Kamola hall won over the judges Tuesday night and were crowned Mr. and Ms. Central.
Ms. Johnson captivated the audience as she sang and played the guitar to her version of “Zombie” by the Cranberries. Ms. Johnson is a clinical physiology major and a senior at Central. Mr. Bester charmed the crowd with his performance of juggling, yo-yoing, and entertaining the audience with jokes. Mr. Bester is a sophomore here at Central and is pursuing a degree in the English education major.
Q: How does it feel to be crowned Mr. and Ms. Central?
Mr. Bester: “It’s so neat. I’m really happy I was able to make people laugh and smile. Juggling is a really silly talent, and to be able to entertain people with such a silly talent is really nice.”
Ms. Johnson: “It’s so awesome, I remember trying to do talent shows when I was younger and I was never brave enough, I always broke down in the middle and the fact I was able to do this feels really good.”
Q: What has been your favorite part about being in the Mr. and Ms. Central competition?
Mr. Bester: “My favorite part was being able to see everyone’s talent from the beginning and watching everyone go through mic checks and practices and then seeing them perform for the final event in front of this huge audience was so cool, I loved it.”
Ms. Johnson: “It was seeing everybody and their talent. Everybody owned it, and I feel like when people perform it’s showing a piece of themselves, it was really cool to meet a lot of people and see how gifted they are.”
Q: What made you decide to try out?
Mr. Bester: “I was peer-pressured into it. I just juggle sometimes when I’m bored and my friend actually made me try out for Mr. Kamola. There wasn’t a lot of people who tried out for Mr. Kamola, so I just thought I’d add to the pile and try out.”
Ms. Johnson: I really want to pursue music, and I’m jumping in it. I’m taking every opportunity that I have to perform.”
Q: How did you feel about performing in front of an audience?
Mr. Bester: “I wasn’t nervous at all. I was most nervous before and after my performance, but the second my boots hit the stage it’s like BOOM!- I might’ve been an introvert before but now I’m in the moment! I think it’s one of my favorite places to be. It’s where I’m most comfortable. Tonight was so fun, I had a ball. Get it? ‘Cause I’m a juggler?”
Ms. Johnson: “I was super nervous, but I was glad I was last because it gave me a chance to meditate and get myself mentally prepared before I got up there.”
