Central Washington University (CWU) Track and Field athletes met in Texas for the Bobcat Invitational and Texas Relays from March 26 to 29 and came home with multiple personal bests (PB), school records, Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) records, and a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II record.
The men’s 4×100 meter relay team, consisting of three sophomores and one freshmen, ran a 41.01-second relay, which is .13 of a second off the record and second all time for the GNAC. The future is bright since the team holds Sophomores Josh Boast, Bautista Diamante, Trevion Walker and Freshman Cohen Hall. Both Boast and Walker already hold the 4×100 meter relay record set by the CWU team in 2024 with 40.88 seconds.
On the women’s side, senior E’lexis Hollis continues to light up the track, hitting 11.27 seconds in the 100 meter. Not only is this her personal best, but also won her first place of the 51 total athletes competing in the 100 meter.
Hollis, much like Boast and Walker, has experience with records, being on the 4×100 relay team that set the women’s GNAC record last year at 45.76 second. At the Bobcat invitational this year, Hollis, along with teammates Elise Hopper, Zoe Gonzales, and Ashlyn Nielson, broke the CWU and GNAC record they set last year with a finish time of 45.15 seconds. For her efforts, Hollis was awarded GNAC Track Athlete of the Week.
The highlight of the meet was Emy Ntekpere. The sophomore, just weeks after claiming the national champion status, set a personal best, CWU record, GNAC record, and also NCAA Division II record in the high jump and triple jump, reaching 1.79 meters and 13.26 meters respectively.
Since Ntekpere and Hollis continue to break records and cement their names in the history books, they were both awarded GNAC Athletes of the Week on March 31, with Ntekpere winning the field variant and Hollis winning the track variant. With Wildcats holding both athlete of the week awards and four GNAC records set, CWU track and Field team was selected as GNAC Team of the Week on March 31.
The Wildcats will continue their hot streak on Friday, April 11 at Spokane, Wash. in the Dr Rahn Invitational hosted by Whitworth. The following week, the Wildcats Track and Field team will claim home track and field advantage as Ellensburg hosts the CWU Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, April 19.
