Johan Correa is a fifth-year student at CWU pursuing his Law and Justice degree. Correa is currently one of the stand-out athletes in his event and in the nation, being eighth in the country for the 800-meter and first in all of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
During the 2022-23 season, Correa broke the indoor school record at the GNAC Indoor Championships with the 800-meter at 1:52.82, then proceeded to break another school record in the mile at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open, clocking in at 4:16.95. Correa isn’t just known for his records; his indoor season as of 2024-25 has been setting standards in the GNAC conference and making his name known at the GNAC Indoor Championships.
Correa’s training protocol is dictated by his coaching staff, having designated hard workout days and active recovery days. “I listen to my coach because he’s a good coach, he knows what he’s doing,” Correa said. “The days that I’m supposed to go on are Wednesdays and Saturdays, which are my workouts. Those days I go hard.”
With nationals for NCAA Division Two, Correa is one of seven Wildcats qualified to go to Fall Creek Pavilion at Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis on March 15 for the two-day event. Correa’s goal and mindset throughout the season are set to this moment. “The goal is to win nationals and have a fast time to compete at a higher level like USA championships and Olympic trials,” Correa said. The Wildcat is setting his sights on the Olympic qualifying times as his standards for when the time comes he will compete in Track Town USA at the University of Oregon.
When Correa finishes school, he shows interest in becoming a police officer. As of now, the Wildcat is focused on Nationals and pursuing track at a higher level, adding to his resume of notable achievements. Correa has achieved the following all-time best records for indoor track and counting.
