The members of The Sleepers are Collin Pillow, lead singer and bassist, Alex Palagyi, drummer and singer and Nate Zech, guitarist. The band, based out of Ellensburg, Washington are making a name for themselves, playing shows, recording music and selling merchandise.
The boys had a lot to say about what the future goals are, and the aspirations they have, while telling stories about the beginning of The Sleepers.
Putting songs on Spotify is “Absolutely a goal,” Pillow said.“[We] want it to happen as soon as possible. The whole point is to gain listeners.” For now, you can find them on SoundCloud.
The band hinted at something in the works. “[We’re] probably gonna record again soon,” Pillow said. “It’s a slow process but we’re getting there,” Palagyi added.
Throughout the evolution of the band, The Sleepers still are bursting at the seams to get their music on the map. “First step is getting recordings finalized,” Pillow said. “I can see a couple singles before something big hits.”
Discussing a possibility of some type of tour, the band expressed their enthusiasm with the prospect of that in the future. However, Pillow expressed that when you don’t have music to point listeners to, explaining that touring, as fun as it sounds, will not do the band any good without more recordings out.
The Sleepers have had many different themes to their music, throughout their breakout career. As well as different genres of music “They used to be a lot angrier and sadder songs,” Pillow said. Reflecting that now he writes much happier songs, due to the happiness in his life, now he has a girlfriend and a dog.
A downtown record store and music venue Old skools hosts open mic nights where the sleepers met Zech. He joined the band soon after.
“[We] had a different guitarist,” Pillow said. “Around New Year [is] when we met Nate [Zeck].”
Pillow shared a funny story about how Zeck experienced the first ever Sleepers gig as an audience member and his feelings towards the band back then.
“A year and a half of knowing Nate in and we’re all hanging out, and he’s like, ‘Guys, I was at the first sleepers’ gig, and I left,’” Pillow said Zeck had told him. Pillow shared the story of the first Sleepers’ gig “He rightfully left. It was during the fifteen-minute ukulele part, that solo, I played piano and ukulele and guitar alone and it all sounded like shit,” Pillow said. “Gotta start somewhere,” Palagyi added.
