The Office of University Student Research (OUSR) is a program that helps with assisting CWU students in presenting and performing their creative work and research to the larger community. In addition, grants and scholarships for study, travel, and artistic expression are provided throughout the fall and winter that can total up to $3,000. Grants are financial awards given to students to help cover the costs of their education. Unlike loans, grants do not need to be repaid, making them an appealing option for many students.
When speaking with Hideki Takei, the director of the office of university student research (OUR), about how grants and scholarships are more meaningful than just money, he said, “I want to showcase your research for the sake of your career development or educational advancement,” the director of the office of university student research (OUR), Hideki Takei said, “This is actually creating your future kind of activities. So when you apply for a student grant, start thinking about how you can use this all in order to improve your career.” Takei helps give students another way to look at grants and scholarships. Creative research in something they are interested in can help students provide themselves with career opportunities and develop a head start when it comes to job opportunities, which most people would not think about when applying for grants and scholarships.
Students have multiple opportunities to apply for grants in the fall and winter quarters, with similar funding available each season. “Hey, apply in the fall. And if you are ongoing, apply again in the winter,” Takei said, “We can tell you what your research looks like. Our source betters researchers, they actually tell you how research is beneficial for you and how they actually get the challenge and how they can conquer it. Then think about it in the fall and apply in the winter.” There are many opportunities to receive a grant, even if it doesn’t work the first time.
Grants and scholarships are pivotal in shaping students’ futures by providing essential financial support and invaluable professional development and research opportunities. These funding sources empower students to explore their academic passions, engage in meaningful projects, and build fundamental skills that enhance their employability. As students undertake research and community initiatives funded by grants, they gain practical experience, foster networks, and cultivate a sense of purpose, ultimately setting the stage for successful careers. Investing in these educational resources is not just a financial commitment; it’s a profound investment in the potential of future leaders and innovators.
