“LGBTQ2IA+ teach-in” to be held at Brooks Library in light of recent events
November 8, 2021
A “LGBTQ2IA+ teach-in” will be held Monday Nov. 8 outside of the Brooks Library called “Queering the Space” to educate the community about various issues and to address recent incidents of hate on campus. The teach-in is from 4 to 6 p.m., and will include warm refreshments, sidewalk art and poster making.
The event is sponsored by the Gender and Sexuality Center, the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, the VP for Inclusivity and Diversity’s Office and Brooks Library.
The teach-in is a part of the library’s response to an incident last month where Brooks Library was “defaced with homophobic and politically partisan vandalism,” according to an email from President Jim Wohlpart.
The email states “Central Washington University has zero-tolerance for any act of hate or aggression against any member of our LGBTQIA+ community or any other member of our community,” and that, “We are an inclusive and accepting university that is strongly committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all of our students.“
