Finish the Quarter Strong with Group X and Fitness Friday

Don’t have any plans for Friday? The Recreation Center offers Fitness Fridays featuring live workout sessions, and a Fitness On Demand app.

Fitness Friday was introduced during winter quarter when the Recreation Center couldn’t offer in-person classes. After getting positive feedback the program continued into spring quarter.

The live sessions happen every Friday at noon. Group X instructors will then take over and share their workouts. Most live sessions are 15 minutes long.

“We film the live and save it to the IGTV channel  in case people want to redo the class or couldn’t make it to the live session,” club sports coordinator Samantha Wary said.

Fitness Fridays is just one of the ways the Recreation Center has been keeping students engaged and active as some students can’t make it to the gym or in person classes that Group X offers. It also gives current and new incoming students a taste of what type of fitness classes are offered and allows them to meet the instructors as well.

Annie Bluher is a junior, double majoring in psychology and exercise science. She is a yoga instructor with Group X. She said she enjoys the freedom that each instructor gets to pick what their class will consist of.

“I treated my last class as more of an introduction to yoga and what to expect,” Bluher said.

Due to its success so far, Wary would like to continue Fitness Friday fall quarter.

According to Wary, the Recreation Center began offering the Fitness On Demand app, which is free to students, after getting positive feedback from Fitness Fridays.

“When registered through our portal [students] get access to over 400 classes,” Wary said.

This is another great alternative for those who aren’t comfortable going to the gym or want to try new things that the Recreation Center doesn’t offer.
