Family game show plays at Family Fun Day
May 12, 2021
FUN is the first word in the family game show as students and their families played together in what was only a small part of Saturday’s Family Fun Day. The game show modeled after Family Feud and renamed as “Campus Feud” began at 5 p.m. on Saturday May 8. Put together by Campus Activities, the Family Fun Day encouraged students to spend time with their families and let loose.
The game show followed the rules of Family Feud, where families competed against each other to name the most popular responses to surveys. There were no age restrictions, young family members were allowed to participate as well. Students registered for the event in advance to receive a link to the Zoom event.
The game show was set up by an outside company and hosted by speaker and comedian Adam Ace.
Ace made participants laugh with jokes, sound effects and silly dancing to celebrate a victory. Keeping an upbeat attitude and giving bits of advice to students and their families such as, “if you can’t be yourself who will you be?”
The game show featured montages of Family Feud, popular GIFs and short clips from well-known movies and shows, such as Mean Girls, Mr. Bean, The Office, Parks and Recreation, among others.
Ace engaged with families on the screen by asking them questions and commenting on their facial expressions. Ace good heartedly asked a team of participants during a losing streak if they were still alive. Participants had a chance to win actual cash for correct answers. If a team won a round they were awarded $50.
Questions asked during the game included “name something the state of Kentucky is famous for,” “name countries that speak Spanish,” “name something you might find floating around in your bathtub,” and “where do kids nowadays spend most of their time.”
The idea to have Campus Feud at the CWU Family Fun Day came from Alisa Muench when she attended a trivia night hosted by her sister’s school.
“Over break, the two of us attended a virtual trivia night hosted by the same company for her school and they mentioned their version of Family Feud,” Muench said. “I thought it would be fun to bring back to Central, so I pitched it and we decided to involve it as part of Family Fun Day.”
The first 200 students that signed up for any of the Family Fun Day activities received a free Family Fun Day package.
