The Fall Cannabis Harvest at Mammoth Labs
October 20, 2020
The main staging area for the outdoor grow. The majority of the workers are here trimming and then based on the quality of the strain overall and the plant’s density it can either be put in dry rooms to hang for flower or shucked into another bucket for concentrate processing in the future. The front pile is what’s left of the plants after they have been harvested and are ready to be discarded.
Cannabis can have an array of colors depending on the strain and stage of life. At the beginning you see bright greens mostly like any other new plant but when you come around to the maturity of the plant around harvest some develop dark purple leaves or other stay a vivid green or like this one here and its gradient of color moving from the middle of the plant out.
Full, dense cola’s means today is the day for these plants to come down.
Using a sawzall is much preferred to a hand saw as it makes cutting down the cannabis a breeze for the workers. It is just one more thing to help aid and speed up the process of harvesting the plant.
The worker collects plants after being cut down to bring back to the main staging area where they will be broken down and processed further for either flower or concentrates.
How do you move such large cannabis plants across a farm? The Gator here is the wheels around the farm to move equipment and plants throughout the long days.
The yellow fans speed up the work flow cycle allowing for more plants to be harvested in a day by waving large branches over the grates where underneath a fixed blade is attached to a fan spinning incredibly fast, but be careful these fans are SHARP!
What is a harvest season without some laughing and joking throughout the day to keep things fun sitting around fans all day.
After the cannabis has been dried it can then be taken down and trimmed further to then get ready for jarring then eventually put out to shelves.
Another day has ended on the Farm. With everyone tired, hands sore but still having fun, it’s time to head home for the night, rest up and get ready for another full day of harvesting tomorrow.
