Water main break causes flooding

On Tuesday, Oct. 20 there was a break to a water main, which is a substantial pipe that carries drinking water. The break occurred on North Walnut Street between East Dean Nicholson Boulevard and 18th Street, according to Margaret Reich, the communications and government relations officer for the City of Ellensburg. Police officers closed several streets near Nicholson Pavilion due to flooding. An officer on scene said the water main caused a large amount of water to pour onto North Walnut Street, East Dean Nicholson Boulevard and North Wildcat Way.

There was a crew fixing the break and flagging vehicles through on Wednesday, according to Reich. Reich said she doesn’t anticipate the cause was related to ongoing construction. Instead she said it was probably caused by the change in temperature lately. There were no service disruptions caused by the break. Reich said the crew had been working on the break the majority of Wednesday. If the work went smoothly and the crew didn’t run into a problem, it should be wrapped up by today.
