Campus Activities held the first laser tag event in the SURC Ballroom tonight, March 30. A DJ played music and about 150 students participated in the event.

Campus Activities Special Events Coordinator Katelyn Clavette hoped to emulate the atmosphere of the laser tag she played as a kid.

“I just really enjoyed playing laser tag. I’ve been playing since I was a little kid, so I wanted to bring it here and let everyone else enjoy it,” Clavette said.

Clavette started planning the event in June with the goal of giving CWU students something fun to do during winter months. Originally scheduled for February, the event had to be moved due to unforeseen circumstances.

Dillon Clare and Sierra Rogers were among the winners of the first round of the evening. Clare enjoyed the occasionally challenging situations the game put the team in.

“It seemed kind of at a standstill. There were two sections on their side where they were really hiding, and we had the entire middle area,” Clare said.

According to Clavette, Campus Activities has been putting effort into crafting events that give students a reason to get out of their dorms and do something active. These have included intramural sports, bubble ball soccer and occasional games of archery tag, with the latter coming up on April 4.

Rogers is excited for more events like these.

“I would like to attend more, it’s really fun and cool and gets you out of the dorm or apartment,” Rogers said.
