Trainwreck isn’t a trainwreck

Justin Phan, Staff Reporter

I have always liked Amy Schumer. She is a really funny comedian. I like her confidence and the way she presents herself on stage. So as soon as I knew she was going to be in a movie, I could not wait to see her in the theater.

Amy Schumer plays Amy Townsend, a Snuff magazine writer whose life is, as you may have guessed, a trainwreck. On a work assignment, she meets Aaron (Bill Hader), a sports doctor, and if you have ever seen a romantic comedy, I bet you can figure out what happens next.:

But the film sets itself apart with a great supporting cast. The dialogue is refreshing, sometimes painful, but honest. The writing of the movie feels very realistic.

Despite this movie being of little difference to other romantic comedies, its honesty is really explored through the movie’s tragic moments. Amy’s father suffers from sclerosis, which gives the movie an emotional center.

This really contrasts with the movie’s hilarity, the type that will have you laughing hard.

Sports fans also have something to enjoy, with the appearances of famous athletes like John Cena and Lebron James. I think these guys did a great job with their part of the movie.

Other major stars, such as Daniel Radcliffe, also help spice up the film, without distracting audiences from the main story.

However, at times the movie feels a little crowded. Funny moments seem rushed, leaving me, as an audience, wanting a little more.

But at other times, it feels too slow. Jokes are drawn out longer than they need to be.

Despite of all this, the movie is a celebration of women and humor. For long-time fans of Schumer, or just people who like to laugh, this isn’t a movie to skip.
